Do You Need Eyeglasses?

How's your eyesight? Do you have 20/20 vision? If you do, consider yourself fortunate. According to aarp.org, "Approximately 12 million people 40 years and over in the United States have vision impairment, including 1 million who are blind, 3 million who have vision impairment after correction, and 8 million who have vision impairment due to uncorrected refractive error."
Many of us value the fact that we have good-to-average eyesight. But I wonder if the best human eyesight is enough for us to see what we really need to see. As Christians, we believe in God. We accept that we can't scientifically prove to our friends that He exists but we know He does because He dwells inside of our hearts. We feel Him, speak to Him, and sense that He speaks back to us, but we cannot see Him. No matter how good your eyesight is, you must come to terms with the fact that you can't physically see God.
Many people may find this fact upsetting. I mean, how can you believe in something/someone you have never seen with your own eyes? I think back to Sarah (Abraham's wife). Can you imagine yourself as a wife back in those days who is being told by her husband that they have to pack up everything and leave the country but your husband can't really tell you where you are going because he claims he saw it in a dream from a God no one has ever seen before? Well, I'm not sure how many of us would accept such a situation without wondering if the person making this claim is simply cuckoo!
How about you? Have you ever wanted to see what the God you serve looks like? What would your Christian walk be like if every time you bowed your knees to pray you could open your eyes in the middle of the prayer and see Jesus sitting right in front of you listening to you? Imagine you are praying and you are making eye contact with Him - face-to-face. Wow! What an awesome experience that would be.
Unfortunately, as a result of sin, we who are descendants of Adam can't enjoy that privilege. We must be content to pray to an invisible God. The Bible itself tells us that God is invisible. We read texts like these; "The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation", Colossians 1:15; "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever", 1 Timothy 1:17; "By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible", Hebrews 11:27.
But what if I told you there is a way you can see God? You are not going to see Him physically but this is the next best thing! All you need is a special pair of eyeglasses! Yep, eyeglasses! Now, these eyeglasses are unique and special because just like the God you are wanting to see they are invisible too! Yes, the eyeglasses are invisible but they will give you the best view of the invisible God. Bear with me as I explain.
You see, God has given us the ability to see him in three different ways. The glasses will help you determine which way works best for you. According to the divine optometrist, combining all three ways will render the best results and give you the most complete sight of God. Let's check it out!
Since God is invisible we humans can put on our special glasses and see Him through His creation. Now, if you don't believe God created the heavens and the Earth then these glasses won't do you any good. But if you do believe and have faith in the creator then by putting on your special glasses you'll be able to see how God has made provisions for you through nature. You'll see how your own body works collectively to sustain your life. Looking at your body will remind you that He thought of everything when he made you. You'll look up at the sky and wonder how our planet is perfectly positioned in space so as to benefit from the sun without being scorched by it. You'll marvel at how the force of gravity works to keep us all firmly planted on the ground no matter where we live on the planet. All of these things and more you'll be able to see once you put on these special glasses.
The special glasses will also allow you to see how God speaks to you through his word. As you read through the scriptures you will read things that seem to apply perfectly to your situation. You will read things that will reveal how much God loves you. The more you read, the more you will see. Things that once perplexed you will now become clear as day. As you read God's word you will ask yourself -How did I ever miss that? Yes, these special glasses will help you see God in the Bible.
Lastly, these special glasses will enable you to see God as He acts in your life. Things will happen to you that at first baffled you. However, as you continue walking in faith, you will begin to see how providence has been guiding you every step of the way. Things will happen in your life that will make you say, "I see what you did there my Lord!" This is one of the neatest parts of wearing these special glasses!
So, what do you say? Shall we go and get us a pair? Yep, you read my mind. I'm placing my order right now!
Until next time my fellow pilgrims!
